Lake Superior (Gitchigume)
Known as Gitchigume in a local American Indian dialect, Lake Superior is the largest of all the Great Lakes. Stradling the border between Canada and the United States, Lake Superior has the largest surface area of any freshwater lake in the world. Major centers on this lake include Duluth, Minnesota, and Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.
